Our story

Our story starts at the heart of Morocco, Casablanca.

With every Azral rug, there's a world beneath your feet.

The beginning

From Casablanca to the Atlas

Hichame and Naila are French, with Moroccan and Algerian roots and Amazigh and Touareg origins. They live in New York, and it was on a family visit to Casablanca that this story began.

In Casablanca, they were lucky to stumble on beautiful Amazigh art, a discovery that pulled them deep into the Atlas mountains in search of the craft and the hands behind it.

A craft of camaraderie

Our weavers are not invisible hands behind a loom. They are mothers, sons, daughters and fathers who share tea, laugh, and whistle while they weave.

A vision of the future

We believe rug-making in Morocco shouldn't be a cog in a machine, it should be a career to cherish. From our first piece, building an ethical, transparent value chain has been our north star.

Fair pay, safe workshops, and real respect for the artisans we work with. The traditions survive when the people who carry them are taken care of.

From the road

In search of the right wool, the right hands, the right colors

After weeks on the road, we found the fibers, the hands and the palette that would become Azral.

Respectful evolutions

Small studio, hands we know

Operating a small studio comes with the responsibility to push the craft forward without breaking what makes it sacred. We work only with artisans we know by name, in workshops we have walked through ourselves.

The slow finish

In time with the horizon

The sweetest things move slowly. After washing, every rug travels to a sunlit courtyard and dries on hand-hewn wooden racks, the warming blanket of the Moroccan sun is the last hand the rug feels before yours.

The proof is in the process

Fast gets the attention, but slow has all the power

Every Azral rug takes months. Our proprietary washing process, followed by a long sun-dry on wooden racks, is where innovation braids most technically into the traditional craft. The result: a rug that is soft, resilient, and meant to last lifetimes.
